20 High School Students from 12 Countries Shape Global Policy at Y20 Leadership Summit in Tokyo, Japan

BOSTON--()--Knovva Academy, the industry leader in blended learning and experiential learning programs for global youth, is proud to announce the culmination of the 2019 Model G20 Task Force in Tokyo, Japan. At the Model G20 Task Force, 20 student leaders from 12 countries across five continents represented the international community of high school students at the world’s premier diplomatic gathering for young adults.

As the official and exclusive Knowledge Partner of the Y20 (Youth 20), a G20 engagement group that convenes young representatives from G20 countries to develop policy solutions to modern challenges, Knovva Academy selected 20 participants based on academic excellence and their commitment to global citizenship.

The Model G20 Task Force challenged students to apply their knowledge of international issues, diplomacy, and cultural differences to create policy recommendations on pressing topics including the future of work, international trade, and business and the environment. Since the Y20’s inception, Model G20 Task Force participants have been the only high school students to attend.

The Model G20 Task Force afforded attendees the opportunity to amplify their voices as student leaders and channel their passion for global responsibility. Program highlights included:

  • Discussion sessions with Y20 delegates and special guests of the Y20
  • Workshops with Japanese student leaders resulting in policy recommendations on topics like education, technology, automation, and immigration
  • Keynotes and panels from local and international leaders, including a member of Japan’s House of Representatives, a former ambassador, and diverse leaders from the business and non-profit sectors

Three Task Force students also represented the global community by presenting youth-focused policy recommendations during the opening ceremony of the Y20 Summit. Jennifer Zhang from the United States, Marcus Nguyen from Australia, and Tatiana Fakoukaki from Greece shared their recommendations to an audience of over 1,000 delegates, professionals, educators, students, and peers from Japan and all over the world.

Knovva Academy will continue its commitment to youth leadership, global citizenship, and cross-cultural understanding at its upcoming summits in Boston, USA and Cambridge, UK. Knovva Academy looks forward to continuing its exclusive knowledge partnership with the Y20 Summit at next year’s event in Saudi Arabia.
