PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Precision Wellness, Inc. a Silicon Valley-based company at the intersection of next-generation AI, big data analytics and the latest medical science, today announced the validation of its cardiometabolic disease (CMD) predictive risk engine. The study was performed as part of a sponsored research with Stanford University to evaluate 416,936 individuals from UK Biobank (UKBB) population data that were tracked longitudinally over six years.
In this study, Precision Wellness demonstrates the accuracy and high predictive performance of its next-generation risk models. Risk predictions were generated at the individual level and validated against the UKBB longitudinal data. The risk models were validated for the following interdependent and chronic diseases: Type 2 diabetes, stroke, coronary artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and deep vein thrombosis.
The economic burden and growing rate of cardiometabolic diseases in the U.S. and globally is fueling the need for accurate and in-time risk assessment. These early health-risk insights when combined with proper lifestyle and nutritional interventions can have profound impact on an individual’s health: preventing onset of disease, reversing the course of disease, delaying the progression of disease, and avoiding the onset of new disease or catastrophic events.
Additionally, with accurate health insights, risk bearing and self-insured institutions can get an early glimpse into the individuals that can be most responsive to early intervention.
Over the past two years, Precision Wellness has focused on developing a state of the art risk engine, using multidimensional risk assessment models, on a foundation of precision medicine. These risk models apply extensive cardiovascular knowledge, data and an AI-driven analytic platform to the challenge of accurately predicting an individual’s future state of health. Precision Wellness believes this engine can provide the backbone to any health and nutrition recommendation system that works for wellness, disease prevention, weight loss and optimized intervention at the individual and population level.
“These high-performing risk models have been designed to consider a broad range of interrelated risk factors and comorbidities,” notes Dr. Erik Ingelsson, Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine and Scientific Advisor to Precision Wellness, “and is applicable to population analysis, as well as individual assessment.”
Risk Model Performance Enhanced Using Contemporary Risk Factors
In addition to conventional risk factors (such as lipid levels and blood pressure), these models include contemporary risk factors such as genetics, socioeconomic data, lifestyle factors and comorbidities to predict outcomes. This inclusion is becoming increasingly important, especially as a large fraction of patients with CMD do not present their risk using conventional risk factors.
“The inclusion of these additional risk factors improve disease prediction and management to change the course of cardiometabolic diseases,” explains Dr. Mehrdad Rezaee, President of Cardiac and Vascular Care and Precision Wellness co-founder.
Risk Model Accuracy Validated Using Large Population Analysis
There are abundant risk predictors for CMD, but combining them into accurate risk calculators has proven difficult because to do so requires validation through large population analyses. Only a small number of risk stratification models have been evaluated sufficiently to meet contemporary analytic standards for either development or validation.
“External validation of risk assessment across large populations is essential for the prescriptive accuracy required for precision health and personalized medicine,” Dr. Rezaee emphasizes.
Precision Wellness risk engine has been verified across large population and offers the most accurate predictor of cardiometabolic health. Using Precision Wellness, self-insured organizations, healthcare providers and payers can benefit from predictive insight and can deliver effective programs that yield outcomes.
