NPR Political Correspondent Mara Liasson to Speak at WRKF Luncheon

BATON ROUGE, La.--()--89.3 WRKF-FM, Baton Rouge’s NPR News station, announced today that NPR political correspondent Mara Liasson will speak at the station’s fifth annual Founders Luncheon Sept. 13 at 12:00 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Baton Rouge.

Liasson provides extensive coverage of politics and policy from Washington, DC, focusing on the White House and Congress; and political trends beyond the Beltway. She has reported on seven presidential elections since 1992. Liasson's reports are heard regularly on Morning Edition and All Things Considered on WRKF.

“We are thrilled Mara Liasson will join us,” said WRKF President and General Manager Paul Maassen. “She brings a unique perspective on the political landscape.”

The WRKF board of directors will present its Founders Award to Mary Ann Sternberg, a longtime supporter of WRKF. Sternberg represented WRKF’s members during her two terms on WRKF’s board of directors. She is author of six books about Louisiana’s River Road.

Previous award recipients, each recognized for significant contribution to the station, were Lew Carter (posthumously), the Richard Kilbourne family, the Reilly Family, and Cyril Vetter.

The popular event, has drawn more than 600 attendees each year. Speakers at previous luncheons were political commentator James Carville, NPR commentator Cokie Roberts, New York Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet, and political strategist Mary Matalin.
