The Rite Aid Foundation Announces Additional $6 Million Commitment to Folds of Honor

CAMP HILL, Pa.--()--Over the Memorial Day weekend, The Rite Aid Foundation announced a three-year, $6 million commitment to Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to children of military service members who have been killed or seriously wounded while serving our country. This is The Rite Aid Foundation’s third contribution to Folds of Honor. Since 2015, The Foundation has awarded more than $13 million to the organization, including $1.3 million in 2015 and another three-year, $6 million commitment in 2016.

Bill Renz, Rite Aid’s senior vice president of category management and marketing and a member of The Rite Aid Foundation Board, announced the latest donation alongside Major Dan Rooney, Folds of Honor Founder, during the Patriot Cup Invitational, the organization's annual golf tournament and gala that celebrates the nation's heroes and military families and raises funds for Folds of Honor.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with Folds of Honor and help advance the important work we are doing together,” said Renz. “Since first partnering with Folds of Honor in 2015, The Rite Aid Foundation has awarded nearly 1,600 educational scholarships totaling over $7 million to the families of our military heroes. We know these scholarships make a meaningful difference in the lives of the families who receive them, and we look forward to making an even greater impact over the next three years.”

Folds of Honor was founded in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard who served three tours of duty in Iraq. Since its inception, Folds of Honor has awarded nearly 20,000 scholarships to the family members of fallen or disabled service members.

“Since 2015, Rite Aid has been an incredible and steadfast partner for Folds of Honor and we are incredibly thankful for their continuous support,” said Major Dan Rooney. “Time and time again, Rite Aid has proven themselves a caring neighbor to our nation’s fallen or disabled service men and women and their families. We cannot thank them enough for their tremendous support in helping the children of our military heroes gain access to better educational opportunities, and ultimately, brighter futures.”

The Rite Aid Foundation awards Folds of Honor scholarships through its KidCents program, which is the Rite Aid Foundation’s charitable-giving program dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of children living in the communities Rite Aid serves.

Through the KidCents program, members of Rite Aid's loyalty program, wellness+ rewards, can round up their in-store or online purchases to the nearest dollar and donate their change to KidCents.
