PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tetra Tech, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTEK) announced today that Tetra Tech and its client, the Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD), received the prestigious INFORMS 2019 Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Advanced Analytics, Operations Research, and Management Science. The Edelman Award is the highest award in operation research and analytics. This year’s finalists included IBM; Microsoft; the Boston School Board; the Spanish National Aviation Authority; and Vattenfall, one of Europe’s largest producers of electricity.
MSD was faced with increasingly frequent and intense rainfall that can overwhelm urban wastewater collection and treatment systems and threaten local water environments. MSD partnered with Tetra Tech to implement a real-time control solution using Csoft®, Tetra Tech’s software platform that uses data analytics to optimize the management of sewer networks in real time based on rain forecasts and sensor readings. The solution realized more than $200 million in savings for the local community by reducing the cost of capturing wet weather overflows.
Tetra Tech’s researchers developed Csoft as a cost-effective solution for water utilities to use existing treatment plant storage in lieu of building additional storage facilities. Csoft enables water utilities to respond to rainfall and actual system conditions by maximizing all available storage, conveyance, and treatment capacities. Excess wastewater is diverted and temporarily stored until it can be redirected toward the appropriate treatment plant.
“Our partnership with Louisville MSD has resulted in an extraordinary outcome that applies science to develop more effective solutions that have long-term benefits to the community,” said Dan Batrack, Tetra Tech Chairman and CEO. “We are pleased that our team has been recognized by the INFORMS organization for this landmark application. This award exemplifies how by Leading with Science®, Tetra Tech helps communities become more sustainable and resilient.”
Csoft is an adaptable, transportable, and robust solution that is paired with traditional engineering methods to address the various challenges inherent to urban water management, including sewer overflows, stormwater runoff, water quality, flooding, and drought. Tetra Tech has applied Csoft in major cities around the world.
