Orange County Osteobiologics Company Gives Back to the Planet with Beach Cleanup

IRVINE, Calif.--()--Biogennix, an osteobiologics company that develops, manufactures, and distributes proprietary bone graft substitutes used for bone fusion procedures spent the morning at the beach last Friday – but it was not a surfing or sunbathing expedition. The company and its employees chose to donate their Friday morning to support Orange County Coastkeeper with an Earth Day themed beach cleanup event in nearby Newport Beach.

Costa Mesa-based Orange County Coastkeeper is a nonprofit clean water organization that serves as a proactive steward of the region’s fresh- and saltwater ecosystems. The organization works collaboratively with diverse groups in the public and private sectors to achieve healthy, accessible, and sustainable water resources for the region, promoting innovative, effective programs in education, advocacy, restoration, research, enforcement, and conservation.

“Our mission is to protect the region’s water resources so they are swimmable, drinkable and fishable for present and future generations,” said Orange County Coastkeeper Volunteer Coordinator Patrick Irizarry. “It’s always great to work with growing local companies like Biogennix who are dedicated to giving something back to the community and the ecosystem.”

Biogennix rallied all of its local employees to get involved and help with the beach cleanup activity.

“As a biotech and osteobiologics company, we are staffed by people who love science and the ability to work with organic materials to improve and enhance medical procedures,” said Chris MacDuff, Biogennix’s CEO. “Plus we’re headquartered in Orange County, minutes from the beach. It just makes sense that we’d rally as an organization and give something back to the community while having a great teambuilding experience at the same time. It’s been great working with OC Coastkeeper and rewarding to be able to contribute to the area we are fortunate to live and work in.”

Biogennix’s novel bone graft substitutes, osteoSPAN™ and Morpheus™ are resorbable, osteoconductive scaffolds ideally suited for bone regeneration and optimal handling by surgeons. Biogennix’s composites of calcium phosphate and calcium carbonate have complete interconnected porosity and the optimal pore diameter for bone reconstruction. Available in strips, granules and moldable putty, the products are indicated for orthopedic applications including the posterolateral spine, long bone and pelvis. Biogennix is positioned to launch two additional products into the marketplace in 2019.

In steady growth mode, Biogennix recently announced benchmark news that its products have now been used in more than 11,000 patients, a number that has increased by more than 5,000 patients since Q4 of 2017.

Biogennix designs, manufactures and distributes all of its products from its Irvine-based facilities.
