Schwab’s Terri Kallsen Named 2019 “Financial Woman of the Year” by Financial Women of San Francisco

Organization’s top award recognizes exceptional women leaders in finance and financial services

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Terri Kallsen, executive vice president, Investor Services, at Charles Schwab, has been named the 2019 Financial Woman of the Year by Financial Women of San Francisco (FWSF), a 400-member organization of professionals in finance and financial services. This award is the organization’s highest honor.

Kallsen exemplifies FWSF’s mission of leading, mentoring and inspiring, and shares FWSF’s passion for advancing the careers of women. She has demonstrated her commitment through her leadership as a successful woman in financial services. Kallsen works to identify ways to move beyond financial literacy to promote financial inclusion and empowerment for all. She mentors those looking to advance their career within financial services, with an emphasis on financial planning.

“We are thrilled to honor Terri Kallsen as our 2019 Financial Woman of the Year,” said Kathy Wheadon, president of Financial Women of San Francisco. “Terri is a highly accomplished role model and has dedicated her career to the advancement of women in financial planning and to financial literacy. Our FWSF community will be enriched by learning from Terri this year.”

Kallsen joined Charles Schwab in 2012, where she serves as the executive vice president, Investor Services, at the Charles Schwab Corp. and executive vice president, Investor Services, at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. In this position, she oversees more than 350 Schwab branches, with approximately 7,000 employees who serve nearly 4 million households. She serves on the board of directors of Charles Schwab Trust Co., the Charles Schwab Foundation and College of Saint Benedict.

“I am humbled to receive this honor,” said Kallsen. “As a leader in financial services and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, my purpose is to serve our employees so they can better serve our clients’ financial needs by driving down investing costs, offering financial plans to all who need them, and providing exceptional service. In particular, I strive to make more women aware of the extremely rewarding and fulfilling careers they can have in financial services. It’s a career that has so much potential to empower investors to achieve their dreams.”

Kallsen will deliver a keynote address at FWSF’s 24th Financial Woman of the Year luncheon on October 11, 2019. This annual event also supports funding for FWSF’s scholarship program for Bay Area women pursuing careers in finance and financial services. Last year’s Financial Woman of the Year event raised $384,000 in corporate in-kind and cash contributions. FWSF has awarded over $2.5 million in scholarships over the past 30 years to more than 300 Bay Area women. The 2019 FWSF’s Scholarship luncheon, where the Scholarship recipients will be honored, is June 7, 2019.

The Financial Woman of the Year award was established in 1996 to celebrate the organization’s 40th anniversary. Past FWSF Presidents Leslie Miller and Shelly Porges created the Financial Woman of the Year event with a triple purpose: to raise funds for FWSF’s scholarship program, to increase awareness of FWSF, and to celebrate the careers of the most senior women in finance. Since then it has provided a platform for high-achieving honorees to share their professional experience with others and to inspire other women in their own careers and ambitions. Kallsen joins a distinguished list of former honorees including Heidi Roizen, partner at DFJ; Robin Washington, chief financial officer (CFO) of Gilead; Debbie Messemer, former managing partner of KPMG’s Bay Area Market; Carrie Dolan, CFO of Metro Mile; Sarah Friar, CEO of Nextdoor and former CFO of Square; and Pat Yarrington, CFO of Chevron.
