FUKUSHIMA, Japan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Four Brands of Rice Grown in Fukushima Have Earned Special A Rankings, for the Most in a Single Prefecture Two Years Running!
Every year, the Japan Grain Inspection Association undergoes its Rice Taste Rankings, and the rankings for 2018 have been released at http://www.kokken.or.jp/data/ranking_rankbetu30.pdf (in Japanese only).
From the 154 produced rice types from rice-growing regions throughout all of Japan, four brands grown in Fukushima Prefecture earned the highest ranking, Special A, and, together with Niigata and Yamagata Prefectures, are ranked highest in Japan for the second year in a row.
The taste rankings were begun by the Japan Grain Inspection Association in 1971 as a taste sensation evaluation that publicly rates cooked rice on appearance, fragrance, taste, viscosity, and firmness, resulting in one of the following rankings, in order from highest to lowest: Special A, A, A’, B, and B’.
Six Brands, with Four Special A Rankings and Two A Rankings, Were Recognized
In 2018, four brands were awarded a Special A rank: Aizu Koshihikari, Hamadori Koshihikari, Aizu Hitomebore, and Nakadori Hitomebore. Two brands were awarded an A rank: Nakadori Koshihikari and Tennotsubu.
In addition, Satoyamanotsubu, a Fukushima Prefectural original type of rice that made its official debut in the competition last year, was awarded a Special A ranking as a reference product, indicative of the real strength of Fukushima’s ability to produce quality rice.
We hope that your families will all enjoy Fukushima rice, highly ranked in appearance, fragrance, taste, viscosity, and firmness.
