SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sotera Wireless, maker of the ViSi Mobile® Surveillance Monitoring System and a pioneer in continuous vital signs monitoring, announces the availability of its FDA-cleared Life-Threatening Arrhythmia and Atrial-Fibrillation (LTAA) and Fall Detection capabilities with the official launch of ViSi Mobile 1.5G. Previously cleared to monitor continuous noninvasive blood pressure (cNIBP), functional oxygen saturation of arterial hemoglobin (SpO2), heart rate, pulse rate, ECG activity, respiration rate and skin temperature in hospital-based facilities, ViSi Mobile 1.5G now includes atrial fibrillation, ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and asystole analysis and alarming along with many other enhancements.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, atrial fibrillation, an abnormal heart rhythm or "arrhythmia" in which the upper chambers of the heart contract irregularly and inefficiently, affects 2.7-6.1 million Americans1. Often asymptomatic, atrial fibrillation may remain undiagnosed until or even after development of complications, such as stroke. Post-operative atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia that occurs after both cardiac and noncardiac surgery and is associated with an increased morbidity, longer hospital stays and higher hospital costs2.
ViSi Mobile 1.5G was also FDA-cleared to track and alarm for patient posture and fall events which can alert medical personnel to undesirable patient positions, patient immobility, and patient falls as well as display patient movement and posture (stationary, reclined, lying-down or walking). The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality estimates that 700,000 to 1 million hospitalized patients fall each year3, resulting in significant cost burden to healthcare providers.
