A Global Campaign to Reshape Early Learning for a Connected World is Taking Place at UNICEF with Leading Technology Companies

Executives from Facebook, AT&T, Microsoft, and Hasbro will host a panel discussion on March 11

NEW YORK--()--Power of Zero:

WHEN: March 11, 2019 from 10am - 11:30am EST

WHERE: UNICEF House - Danny Kaye Visitors Centre at 3 U.N. Plaza, 44th St. btw. First & Second Aves. Manhattan, NY 10016

WHAT: Power of Zero, a global campaign to reshape early learning for a connected world is hosting a panel discussion on this urgent question: how do we live up to the promise of a connected, inclusive and empowering internet to ensure that the world’s greatest resource - its children - thrive in a digital world? Power of Zero will also be launching the first in a series of learning materials developed by Scholastic for young children (ages 0-8) at the event at UNICEF’s UN Plaza headquarters hosted by its major partners: AT&T, Facebook, Microsoft, Hasbro, UNESCO and No Bully.

This launch event will feature speakers from these partner organizations, as well as an opportunity for members of the media to attend the panel discussion from 10am - 11:30am EST, with an opportunity for questions and interviews from 11:30am - Noon.

ABOUT: The Power of Zero campaign, pioneered by the San Francisco-based nonprofit No Bully, is an effort two years in the making by founding global partners Facebook, Hasbro, Microsoft, AT&T, the United Nations, and UNESCO. While each partner has its own program(s) around digital citizenship and online safety, Power of Zero represents the first cooperative effort with a focus on young children ages 0-8.

This campaign is informed by research and expertise in the areas of early learning and children's use of digital technology. One such study conducted by AT&T released in late 2018 showed that 84% of kids ages 3 to 7 years old have their own internet device. There are, however, very few learning materials aimed at this age segment, particularly with a focus on preventing behaviors that can lead to bullying and online hate speech.

In order to prepare this underserved market, the Power of Zero campaign has, in collaboration with Scholastic, developed learning materials for families and educators of children ages 0-8, including classroom lesson plans, story books, animated videos and more.

WHO: The event will open with Marta Santos Pais, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on Violence against Children.
