Online school also provides a one-on-one learning environment for students who need additional academic support.

“At CAVA, teachers, school leaders, and administrators strive to support the unique needs of each and every student,” said CAVA head of school April Warren. “We are dedicated to providing our families with the education their children deserve.”

Students attend both live and recorded class sessions that are accessed online, which helps students and teachers engage and interact as if they were sitting together in a traditional brick-and-mortar classroom. Each student is supported by a state-licensed teacher who monitors progress and provides guidance and instruction. Teachers communicate with students via phone, email and in-classroom chat sessions. The CAVA school’s rigorous curriculum includes core subjects, as well as art, music and world languages.

In addition to academics, students may participate in online clubs, and teachers organize numerous field trips and social activities where students have the opportunity to meet their teachers and classmates in person. Moreover, CAVA @ Los Angeles, CAVA @ Maricopa, and CAVA @ San Joaquin offer a program called Community Day, which combines the best of online learning with weekly face-to-face interaction. On Community Days, students receive instruction from teachers in math and language arts and participate in various other educational activities, such as physical education and science fairs, while parents receive support and network with other parents.

All of CAVA’s academic and extracurricular resources are designed to set students up for career and college success.

CAVA will host several online and in-person informational events to help parents learn more about the program. For a list of events and more information about California Virtual Academies and the application process, please visit http://cava.k12.com.
