SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ayla Networks, whose Internet of Things (IoT) platform-as-a-service (PaaS) delivers industry-leading device management and application enablement, today announced that its device agent software now includes the Qualcomm® LTE IoT software development kit (SDK) from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., designed for use with the Qualcomm® MDM9206 LTE IoT global multimode modem. This means that IoT solutions built using this integrated solution from Ayla can support connectivity to the Ayla IoT platform out of the box — with no extra effort required.
“The inclusion of the Qualcomm LTE IoT SDK with Ayla Networks’ agent is well positioned to facilitate the development of innovative solutions designed to enhance productivity and save money,” said Vieri Vanghi, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Europe, Inc. “The use of LTE IoT technologies is a game-changer for enterprise solutions in areas such as supply-chain optimization and asset tracking and tracing, benefiting manufacturing and services companies across the globe.”
“Qualcomm Technologies is leading the charge toward the next era of intelligent, connected solutions enabled by cellular technology,” said Jonathan Cobb, CEO of Ayla Networks. “With the Ayla device agent including the Qualcomm LTE IoT SDK, product manufacturers and service providers can jump ahead with superior cellular IoT solutions that open up new business vistas.”
Expanding Cellular IoT Benefits
Inclusion of the Qualcomm LTE IoT SDK with the Ayla agent, designed for use with the Qualcomm MDM9206 chipset, can improve asset tracking and tracing functions across a wide range of IoT segments. In particular, access to ultra-low-power and cost-efficient cellular connectivity delivered by the Qualcomm MDM9206 chipset supports the development of enhanced and brand-new use cases that benefit from precise tracking.
This Qualcomm LTE IoT SDK is designed to support developers in creating custom IoT application software to run on the integrated Cortex-A7 CPU within the Qualcomm MDM9206 chipset, as well as to provide developers with access to Qualcomm Technologies’ extensive suite of software and tools which are designed to make available some of the additional capabilities of the Qualcomm MDM9206 LTE IoT modem, such as GNSS. The integrated Cortex-A7 CPU within the Qualcomm MDM9206 LTE IoT modem is designed to help eliminate the need for an external microcontroller, which helps improve time-to-commercialization, cost-efficiency, and device security.
For example, in the area of cold-chain logistics, Ayla’s recently announced low-power cellular capabilities combined with the Qualcomm LTE IoT SDK can help enable intelligent tracking of the temperature of meat being transported from processing plant to distributor to retail store — sending real-time alerts if the temperature of the container exceeds a set threshold. Such a solution can potentially result in millions of dollars in efficiency gains, reduced food waste, and improved food safety and compliance standards.
Similarly, solutions built based on Ayla technology and the Qualcomm MDM9206 chipset could make cellular connectivity accessible in situations where Wi-Fi is not available, such as factory automation or remote operations in agricultural, oil and gas, transportation and utilities applications.
Ayla’s device agent software and related solutions are also forward-compatible with Qualcomm Technologies’ recently announced next-generation IoT chipset – the Qualcomm® 9205 LTE IoT modem – which is expected to be available in the first half of 2019.
