NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Open-IX, a 501(c)(6) non-profit industry association formed to promote better standards for data center interconnection and internet exchanges, today announces a newly ratified standard enabling non-profit organizations and internet exchange community members to achieve Open-IX (OIX) certification at no cost. Identical to the costed version, the standard was approved in December 2018 and ratified by the newly elected board.
This step marks another significant milestone in the history of Open-IX, making clear their commitment to open, transparent, bottom-up, and ongoing community involvement. This no-cost option removes administrative and financial roadblocks to any certified non-profit or community member interested. Open-IX encourages the proliferation of internet interconnection to create a more resilient and efficient global internet infrastructure and is confident the opportunity will bring significant adoption.
“We are proud to announce this new standard,” commented Rob DeVita, Executive Director. “We believe it will enable significant growth for OIX certified entities moving forward. We thank the community as a whole for bringing this idea to us and we are delighted to enact it so early in our tenure.”
The new board members, added at the November 2018 Annual General Meeting, take this first step in their commitment to the growth and expansion of Open-IX, and to building a standards framework that works for the entire internet community.

About Open-IX
The Open-IX Association (OIX) is an internet community effort to improve the landscape of internet peering and massive-scale interconnection. OIX encourages the development of neutral and distributed internet exchanges, while promoting uniform standards of performance for interconnections backed by the internet community. The Association aims to promote common and uniform specifications for data transfer and physical connectivity, and improve overall internet performance by developing criteria and methods of measurement to reduce the complexity that restricts massive-scale interconnection in fragmented markets.
