INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WorkSmart Systems, an Indianapolis-based Professional Employer Organization (PEO), announced today it has attained official designation as an IRS certified professional employer organization (CPEO).
According to the IRS public list of CPEOs, approximately six percent of PEOs nationwide qualify as a CPEO. By undergoing this voluntary certification, WorkSmart Systems is on a very short list of IRS certified professional employer organizations operating in the state of Indiana, helping to ensure its clients' federal eligibility and specified tax credits.

In 2014, the United States enacted the Small Business Efficiency Act (SBEA), which designed the voluntary IRS certification for professional employer organizations. SBEA built a regulatory framework for PEOs wishing to attain certification, requiring annual registration fees, an annual audit of financial statements from an independent CPA and reporting of payroll taxes on payment to worksite employees. Small businesses gain substantial benefits from partnering with a CPEO, including an easier and safer avenue to use their PEO to meet employment tax requirements.
