OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, and the provider of operational technologies and services that unlock greater performance and efficiency for the world’s leading organizations across the shipping supply chain, announced that Terport Villeta has gone live with the N4 terminal operating system. The first phase of Terport Villeta, a greenfield project that consisted of 3 years of planning and over two years of construction, opened its gates at the end of this past October.
Terport Villeta, located in Paraguay, received a $40 million investment from Terport Terminales Portuarias S.A. and is now the second terminal operating under the port’s management. The terminal sits on the Paraguay-Panama Waterway, which is the main channel for transporting cargo in and out of Paraguay. Since its opening, the terminal reports an operating capacity of over 100,000 TEU. Terport Villeta was built to compete with the region’s most modern terminals, offering top of the line technology including electric cranes and N4. It is also the only terminal in the country to offer 100% electric RTG’s.
“As we were planning for Terport Villeta, we wanted to source the best equipment and technology available for our customers,” said Nery Espinola, CIO of Terport Villeta. “N4 was a natural fit for our state-of-the-art facility and we were confident in its ability to deliver seamless operations due to the success we have seen in our San Antonio location. With N4 at the center of our operations, we’ll be able to achieve next level productivity while operating with quality, safety and efficiency.”
As one of the two terminals leveraging N4 in the country, Terport Villeta hopes to bring its customers greater visibility on its operations and cargo status through the TOS. Giving its customer visibility into its operations will set Terport Villeta apart and will help it provide end-to-end visibility between both its Villeta and San Antonio locations. The second phase of the project will begin next year and will include extra quay cranes, RTGS systems and additional capacity for annual TEU.
“As technology increases in the industry we are happy to be a partner to more terminals who want to bring our top of the line technology to their customers,” said Susan Gardner, VP and General Manager of the Americas at Navis. “We look forward to the future with Terport Villeta as they become a leader in its region and are excited to help them scale as they grow and continue to build a customer base.”
