SAN DIEGO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AgigA Tech, Inc., a leading provider of high-speed, high-density, battery-free non-volatile memory solutions and a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp., today announced the issuance of United States Patent No. 10,134,451 relating to the adaptive training and adjustment to changing capacitor values based upon age and usage behavior. This recently issued patent brings AgigA Tech’s portfolio total to 22 granted. Having focused on the development of non-volatile DIMM, or NVDIMM, and related technology for more than 10 years, many of the patents in AgigA Tech’s portfolio are fundamental to this increasingly pervasive product category.
The technology covered under this latest patent award provides AgigA Tech’s PowerGEM (Green Energy Module) products with the ability to intelligently adapt the operational parameters of a supercapacitor in order to enhance the reliability and lifetime of the cell, which is crucial for NVDIMM products that rely on the backup energy provided by the supercapacitors to save mission critical data during a system power loss or other catastrophic event.
AgigA Tech has spent more than a decade running reliability testing on supercapacitor technology from multiple vendors, including the latest in hybrid cell technology. Only the supercapacitors that have passed this rigorous testing have been qualified for use in AgigA’s PowerGEM products. To date, AgigA has shipped more than 2.5 million supercapacitors to the field, and without a single return due to a defective cell.

The NVDIMM-N standard defined by JEDEC offers a new class of non-volatile memory developed to meet the need for higher-performance persistent memory for enterprise-class storage and server applications, providing the low latency and nearly infinite endurance of DRAM, along with the non-volatility of Flash. Enterprise and data center applications were previously constrained by the higher latency of existing storage solutions such as SSDs, but they are now able to remove a significant system bottleneck with the deployment of NVDIMM-N solutions in their storage hierarchy.
