NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Brooklyn rapper 2 Milly has engaged Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht LLP ("Pierce Bainbridge") to pursue claims against Epic Games, Inc. ("Epic") over its misappropriation, use and sale of 2 Milly's signature "Milly Rock" as downloadable content in its popular video game, Fortnite. The "Milly Rock" was featured in 2 Milly's breakthrough video, also named "Milly Rock," in 2014.
Social media has been abuzz about Epic's use of the "Milly Rock" and failure to pay 2 Milly. "This isn't the first time that Epic Games has brazenly misappropriated the likeness of African-American talent. Our client Lenwood 'Skip' Hamilton is pursuing similar claims against Epic for use of his likeness in the popular 'Cole Train' character in the Gears of Wars video game franchise," David L. Hecht, partner at Pierce Bainbridge, commented. "Epic cannot be allowed to continue to take what does not belong to it.”
Since its launch in September 2017, Fortnite has earned Epic Games over $1 billion in revenue. A significant portion of that revenue comes from in-game downloadable content, like 2 Milly's signature "Milly Rock" that Epic Games has called an "emote."
"I was never compensated by Epic Games for their use of the 'Milly Rock.' They never even asked for my permission. I am thrilled to have David Hecht and his team at Pierce Bainbridge representing me to help right this wrong," 2 Milly added.
