BURLINGTON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 40.6 million Americans are living below the poverty line. That’s why for the 12th year in a row, Burlington, the national off-price retailer, in partnership with ABC’s Good Morning America and the national nonprofit organization Delivering Good, Inc., is excited to announce the launch of the Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive. Together, it is their joint mission to keep families in need warm this winter.
A recent study found that children whose parents talk to them about giving were 20 percent more likely to give to charity.1 With this knowledge, this year’s campaign aims to not only distribute more coats but also inspire a teachable family moment and educate the next generation on the power of giving. Customers are encouraged to bring their loved ones to one of the more than 670 Burlington locations nationwide to donate their gently worn coats together as a family, joining the millions of customers who have donated more than two million coats as part of the Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive over the past 11 years. As a thank-you, those who donate receive an offer of 10 percent off their entire purchase, valid through January 21, 2019, the concluding date of the Coat Drive.
While the Coat Drive is a national initiative, all coats remain close to home and are distributed to those in need of warmth within the communities in which they are donated. Each year, Delivering Good, Inc., pairs every Burlington location to a local agency that in turn distributes the donated coats so that their neighbors can stay warm this winter.
“Burlington is committed to giving back to the communities where our associates and customers live and work. The Coat Drive is part of our heritage, and we are proud of our long standing partnership with Delivering Good and Good Morning America. We look forward to supporting families in need by continuing to share the warmth this winter,” said Tom Kingsbury, CEO and Chairman of Burlington Stores.
This morning, ABC’s Emmy Award–winning news program Good Morning America kicked off the campaign by reminding its millions of viewers about the ongoing need for coats nationwide. The spirit of families helping other families was brought to life on set, as the audience was filled with families donating coats together. Throughout the campaign, celebrity guests will also stop by the show and donate coats, aiming to motivate others to join the effort.
“We are excited to partner with Burlington Stores once again for the, Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive,” said Lisa Gurwitch, President and CEO of Delivering Good Inc. “This partnership not only provides warm coats to over 500 community partners nationwide, and by extension, to families who need them, but also incites a conversation with consumers to give back within their communities to help their neighbors in need.”
