Kullman has been appointed as the Lead Independent Director of its Board of Directors. Ellen, the former Chair and CEO of DuPont, officially joined Carbon’s Board in April 2016.
In addition, Carbon also announced today the appointment of Deborah M. Messemer to its Board of Directors and the promotion of Elisa de Martel to Chief Financial Officer. Debbie, a recognized business leader who brings deep financial, operational, and market development experience that spans across multiple industries, will chair Carbon’s newly formed Audit Committee.

Bio for Ellen Kullman
Ellen Kullman served as chair of the board of directors and chief executive officer of DuPont from January 2009 to October 2015. During her seven years as CEO at DuPont, she decisively positioned the company for its next generation of growth and championed the power of DuPont science and market knowledge to change industries. While guiding the company through the global financial crisis of 2008, she developed a plan to transform DuPont by moving out of commoditized businesses and establishing it as a premier, market-driven science company. She was named CEO at the beginning of 2009 and board chair later that year, becoming the 19th executive to lead DuPont since its founding in 1802. Currently she co-chairs Paradigm for Parity – a coalition of business leaders dedicated to addressing the corporate leadership gender gap.
In addition to Carbon, Ellen is a member of the boards of directors of United Technologies Corporation, Dell Technologies, Amgen, and Goldman Sachs. She is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering. She serves on the board of trustees of Northwestern University and the board of overseers of Tufts School of Engineering. Ellen holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and an M.S. in Management from Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University.
Bio for Deborah M. Messemer
Debbie Messemer served as the Managing Partner of KPMG’s Bay Area and Northwest region until her retirement in September of 2018, leading more than 3,000 team members in 10 offices across all functions, including audit, tax and advisory. In addition to her leadership responsibilities, Debbie spent a large portion of her career as an audit engagement partner serving public and private company clients in a variety of industry sectors. She has deep experience in SEC filings, due diligence, initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and internal controls over financial reporting.
Debbie was honored as the Financial Woman of the Year by the Financial Women of San Francisco (FWSF) in 2016, and for more than seven years was consistently named as one of the Bay Area’s Most Influential Women in Business by the San Francisco Business Times.
In addition to serving on Carbon’s board, Debbie also sits on the board of directors of Allogene Therapeutics (NASDAQ: ALLO). She has served extensively on a number of non-profit and advisory boards, including the Bay Area Council, the San Francisco Committee on Jobs, the California Chamber of Commerce, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the UC Berkeley Fisher Center Policy Advisory Board, San Francisco Ballet, and Posse. She is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and the San Francisco Chapter of Women Corporate Directors (WCD). Debbie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Elisa de Martel joined Carbon in February 2018 as Vice President of Finance, responsible for Carbon’s overall financial activities and global finance organization, including accounting and controllership, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), reporting, tax, treasury and investor relations. She brings extensive experience in managing global financial planning analytics and operations for manufacturing and technology companies.
Elisa was with Apple Inc. for 11 years, where she served in a variety of financial roles and most recently, was the Director of Manufacturing Finance. Prior to her tenure with Apple Inc., she was a finance manager with Citroen UK and a supervisor at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Elisa earned a Master’s degree in Political Economy from the University of Essex, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the EDHEC Business School.
