City of Hope appoints new senior vice president, chief marketing and communications officer

John Weston is a “visionary leader” with proven results in sustainable, strategic partnerships and worldwide brand growth

DUARTE, Calif.--()--John Weston has been appointed senior vice president and chief marketing and communications officer of City of Hope, a world-renowned independent cancer research and treatment center, effective today.

Weston is a growth-oriented leader with strong experience using innovative strategies to build international brand recognition and strategic partnerships. He will be a member of City of Hope’s Enterprise Leadership Team. His exemplary approach to strategic thought leadership includes an inclusive, team-building management style and proven experience in solving complex business problems.

“John is a visionary leader who brings significant marketing and communications leadership and a deep commitment to City of Hope’s mission to transform the future of health care, especially as it pertains to cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening illnesses,” said Harlan Levine, M.D. president of strategy and business ventures at City of Hope. “His proven skills in marketing and communications, revenue generation, development of sustainable strategic partnerships, and brand awareness will serve City of Hope well as we continue to grow and provide leading-edge services to more patients in Southern California and beyond.”

Most recently, Weston was managing director at Fulcrum 2020, a cancer research investment company, where he created compelling initiatives to promote and monetize cancer research science. Prior to that, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, where he launched and significantly expanded major strategic philanthropic relationships with iHeart, Clear Channel Communications, Credit Suisse and Major League Baseball, resulting in record consumer awareness. Weston developed extensive health care leadership expertise as chief marketing officer and department chair of public affairs at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During his tenure there, he created an exceptional national media campaign and thought leadership platform and initiated partnerships with organizations and individuals to advance Mayo Clinic’s mission. Weston has also held various leadership positions in consulting and business development.

Weston completed an executive program master of business administration at the UCLA Anderson School of Management and a master of public administration at Brigham Young University.
