NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cheddar, the leading post cable networks company, has acquired Rate My Professors (ratemyprofessors.com), a site and app used by more than 6 million college students a month to author an average of 125,000 new professor and class ratings monthly (seasonally peaking at 7 million and 300,000 respectively).
“We are the definitive live, millennial video news company and Rate My Professors adds user generated content and deep engagement to our company,” said Jon Steinberg, Founder and CEO of Cheddar. “Rate My Professors coupled with our OTT networks and CheddarU network makes us the defining media company for a new generation that has no relationship with legacy cable news media. Our cost structure and technology is built for the future and user generated content enhances that model.”
Cheddar acquired Rate My Professors from Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA). Site traffic has grown annually every year since inception, and currently has 20 million ratings across 1.8 million professors. Rate My Professors is where students go to rate, review, and decide on courses on almost every campus in the United States. The iOS app has thousands of reviews and a 4.8 star review in the app store.
“Rate My Professors is a trusted tool for millions of students each month; we’re excited to redesign the site, improve the user experience, and offer students a better toolset to search, evaluate and compare professors,” said Eric Harris, President & Chief Operating Officer of Cheddar. “In 2019, we also plan to offer educators a premium toolset similar to those offered to employers by Glassdoor.”
Taboola has signed on as a strategic in-feed discovery partner for Cheddar’s operation of Rate My Professors.
“We’re very excited to partner with Cheddar to bring Taboola Feed to an audience that is already intimately familiar with the infinite scrolling experiences of social media. We believe the future will be a totally personalized experience when people look for new and interesting content,” said Adam Singolda, CEO & founder, Taboola.
