LONDON--()--INVESTORS seeking a higher rate of return - and who want to use their money to help victims of things like professional negligence - will be interested in a new bond by Just, held through an Innovative Finance ISA called Just ISA.

Launched in summer 2018, the Just ISA offers tax-free returns of 8% by investing in a bond that is ultimately used to fund legal cases on behalf of people who are seeking redress from things such as professional negligence by individuals and corporations.

If a case isn't underwritten and fully insured it won't be taken on by the litigation funding firm - and no cases are taken on outside of the UK.

Rob Rutter, director at Just, said: “It’s crucial for investors to look under the bonnet of any investment, as well as the returns on offer. The Just Bond not only offers returns of up to 8%, but with money being used to help people fight for justice, it also offers investors the chance to support a good cause.

"Investors will ultimately be assisting those who may have been wronged by banks, institutions or individuals. A litigation funder funds the legal costs of people who may have had their lives or businesses ruined by things such as professional negligence, and wish to seek financial redress."

Innovative Finance ISAs (IFISAs) were introduced by the Government in 2016 to enable savers to use their tax-free ISA allowance - currently at £20,000 a year - to access peer-to-peer lending and crowdfunding platforms.

Rob Rutter added: "You can invest from £2,000 up to your tax-free allowance of up to £20,000 in any one year. A £20,000 investment paying 8% a year over a three year period could give a return of £4,800 on top of the original sum, returning £24,800 in total including your original capital."

About the Just Bond and ISA:

Minimum investment: £2,000

Investment period: Previously available able as a five year bond, soon also to be launched as three year bond (no early withdrawals allowed)

Return: 8% paid at the end of the term

To invest: Applications for a Just ISA can be made online at justisa.co.uk

IFISAs are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) - however capital raised through it and ultimately lent to fund litigation by Just, is protected by ATE insurance across a weighted number of highly-rated AA, A+ and A- insurers.

ATE insurance is not designed to pay the policyholder the actual damages that they are trying to recover through the court action. Nor does it cover someone's liability to pay damages to others.

There are no start-up or yearly management fees, but you must be able to commit to a three-year investment. Your capital is at risk and the value of your investment may go down as well as up, and you may get back less then you invested.

* Tax treatment depends on the individual circumstances of each client and may be subject to change in the future.

Investment through the Innovative Finance ISA may offer a higher rate of return, but it is likely to be harder to transfer/sell your investment in the bond than if you were using a cash ISA or another form of savings product. You should review this before making any decision and read the risk section fully before proceeding any further.
