CAMP HILL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) released the following statement praising the U.S. Senate for today’s passage of the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Act (H.R. 6). Passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on Sept. 28, a key provision aims to address the opioid epidemic by expanding eligibility for at-risk seniors to receive Medication Therapy Management (MTM) counseling services from pharmacists through Medicare Part D. Through MTM services, pharmacists help patients take their prescription drugs properly and follow a drug therapy regimen.
“Rite Aid applauds Congress for passing the ‘SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act,’ which will enable pharmacists to play a larger role in helping to combat the opioid crisis by providing Medication Therapy Management (MTM) counseling services to at-risk seniors through Medicare Part D. This is an important step in recognizing the value of community pharmacy in providing services beyond filling prescriptions in lowering overall healthcare costs and addressing key public health issues.
“We thank U.S. Representatives Mike Kelly, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Mike Doyle and Mike Thompson as well as U.S. Senators Pat Roberts and Jeanne Shaheen for their leadership on this important issue, and we encourage the President to sign this bill into law.”
