EAST AURORA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Astronics Corporation (NASDAQ:ATRO), a leading provider of advanced technologies for the global aerospace, defense and semiconductor industries, announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary Astronics Test Systems is introducing the new ATS-6100 WFT (Wire Fault Tester). By detecting both existing and potential wire faults, this tester will help extend the life of aging military or civil aircraft, ships, ground vehicles, and other high vibration equipment where operational failure would be catastrophic.
This is the newest addition to Astronics’ lineup of portable, software-defined test solutions, providing powerful support to critical teams worldwide. As a handheld, self-contained tablet, the ATS-6100 WFT is the first wire tester capable of both soft (intermittent) and hard fault detection. The future-supportable platform contains all necessary hardware and software for comprehensive verification testing and fault detection and isolation of metallic wiring with superior noise rejection.
“Our core mission is to ensure optimal performance of critical systems and protect lives, as evidenced in our new, revolutionary solution for wire fault testing,” commented Brian Price, Executive Vice President of Astronics Test Systems. “The ATS-6100 WFT eliminates guesswork, delivering the perfect balance of voltage and energy for precise fault location and easy repair. We are excited to help customers maximize the ROI of aging equipment and minimize unnecessary spending.”
About the ATS-6100 WFT
The ATS-6100 WFT precisely detects and locates both hard and soft faults, ending unnecessary replacement equipment purchases due to misdiagnosis or “no fault found” results.
As a single-ended application, the tester eliminates the need to terminate the opposite end of the cable for testing, limiting human interaction and leaving cables undisturbed in the system.
The unique design of the ATS-6100 WFT combines patented low energy, high voltage (LEHV) and spread spectrum time domain reflectometer (SSTDR) technologies to precisely locate and assess both existing and potential wire faults.
Engineered with longevity in mind, the ATS-6100 WFT leverages a software-based design giving users the flexibility to test both current and future metallic conductor wiring within system cables and harnesses.
Additional features include:
- Latest SSTDR technology to easily locate opens and shorts in interior/ exterior wiring and cabling, including long haul cabling
- LEHV time domain reflectometer (TDR) to detect and locate soft faults on un-powered conductors without powering or moving the cable
- Detection of intermittent/soft fault conditions, such as chafing or cracking of a wire’s insulator
- Velocity of propagation (VoP) calculation mode
- Configurable Windows-based software support on user-friendly touchscreen interface
- Portable, lightweight, ultra-rugged design to enable easy use within the harshest environments
