BioUtah Announces Jeffrey Shuren, MD, JD, Director of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health as the Luncheon Keynote Speaker for the 9th Annual Utah Life Sciences Summit

Dr. Shuren will take the stage as the luncheon keynote at the 2018 BioUtah Utah Life Sciences Summit, speaking to the state’s premier gathering of industry leaders, innovators, government officials, educators, and investors

SALT LAKE CITY--()--BioUtah, Utah’s only trade association dedicated solely to the life sciences community, is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Shuren, MD, JD, Director of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will keynote the luncheon session of the 2018 BioUtah Utah Life Sciences Summit. The annual Summit will be held November 1, in Salt Lake City, UT, at the Salt Lake Downtown Marriott at City Creek. “As one of the country’s fastest growing life sciences sectors, we welcome Dr. Shuren’s visit,” said Richard Ji, vice president of operations at Clinical Innovations and chair of the BioUtah board of directors. “Utah’s life sciences community will be very interested in getting his perspective on the latest regulatory developments and trends that will impact the future of innovation and healthcare.” The Center is responsible for assuring the safety, effectiveness, and quality of medical devices, assuring the safety of radiation-emitting products, and fostering device innovation. As the Center’s Director, Dr. Shuren is at the forefront of advancing new technologies while improving patient care.

Dr. Shuren has held various policy and planning positions within FDA from 1998 to 2009, including Acting Deputy Commissioner for Policy, Planning, and Budget; Associate Commissioner for Policy and Planning; and Special Counsel to the Principal Deputy Commissioner. Dr. Shuren is board certified in Neurology and served as an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Cincinnati.
