PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hu-manity.co, the company championing the 31st Human Right for individuals to own their data as property, announces the launch of an Android app (iOS coming soon) designed to empower individuals to claim, control and manage their data.
Hu-manity.co Collaborates with IBM Blockchain on Consumer App to Manage Personal Data Property Rights
The #My31 app will give users the world’s first title for digital data. The title is stored immutably on a blockchain, which is the technology that powers other movements such as Bitcoin. The result will enable users to choose how, where and if their data can be used by companies interested in data to drive research, marketing, and more. User’s choices will be securely recorded on blockchain to enable trust and transparency. So, just like a title for a car or home, people will now be able to have a title for their data.
“This is one of those rare times in history where people can use an app to change the world without getting off the sofa” says Richie Etwaru, Founder and CEO of Hu-manity.co. “It is a giant step for every individual on the planet to own our data as our property and have a seat at the table for the first time. While it is clearly a victory for the individual, companies benefit immensely from the option of having access to explicitly consented data. The #My31 app empowers business needs and individual rights to co-exist and thrive.”
The human data marketplace represents an estimated $150-200 billion annually. It is growing exponentially and right now, individuals are cut out of the deal. Upon launch, the #My31 app will focus first on healthcare data. However, human data can include everything from consumer spending habits to travel and geospatial data to driver and vehicle history to energy consumption information to the data held by Facebook and Google and beyond.
“Healthcare data sets are among the largest and most valuable,” says John Kao, Chief Evangelist of Hu-manity.co. “Given the personal nature of health data, it makes sense to employ technologies that engender the level of trust and transparency that Hu-manity.co is in business to provide. This will set the stage for expanding to other forms of human data in the future.”
Upon launch, the app will be available in the United States and will be expanding to other countries from there. It can be found in the Google Play Store and will be coming soon to Apple’s App Store. A test drive iOS version is available for analysts, press and media who inquire. The #My31 app is easy to use and there is no cost to download it or to claim your data as your property.
Adoption goals for the #My31 Movement are built into the process to reward people for everything from downloading the app to referring a friend. These goals and rewards are explained in detail within the app. Once the number of users in the movement reaches certain levels, new functionalities of the app will be turned on, eventually enabling people to receive fair market compensation should they give permission to a third party to use their data for an approved purpose, for example, cancer research.
