CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Aspen Dental MouthMobile stop in Buffalo, NY on Friday, September 7th will kick off the second half of a 28-stop journey across the country as teams of volunteer dentists and staff from Aspen Dental practices continue the tradition of providing free dental care to hundreds of veterans this fall. In addition to dentistry and denture services, patients can now also get a free oral cancer screening with OralID™, a battery-operated handheld oral examination device that is quick and painless.
The Aspen Dental MouthMobile is a 42-foot long free dental clinic on wheels that travels state to state giving veterans much needed dental care – at no cost. Since 2014, Aspen Dental branded practices nationwide have donated more than $15 million in dentistry and helped more than 12,000 veterans as part of the Healthy Mouth Movement. In addition to the MouthMobile, the Healthy Mouth Movement also includes a nationwide Day of Service when Aspen Dental practices open their doors on a designated Saturday to provide free dental care to veterans, and an overseas outreach program to those in desperate need.
The stop in Buffalo at Canalside, 44 Prime Street, is in Erie County, which has been designated as a dental health professional shortage area by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Veterans One-Stop of Western NY, a non-profit providing supportive services to veterans and their families, hosted today’s event.
“Access to dental care is an especially challenging issue for the veterans, who do not receive dental benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs unless they are 100% disabled or have a service-related injury to the mouth,” said Dr. Iswara Parvathaneni, the local Aspen Dental practice owner who provided care in Buffalo today. "It is an honor to give back to our nation's veterans, who have dedicated their lives to serve and protect."
Aspen Dental is committed to improving access to dental care through its 700+ independently owned practices, many of which are located in dental health professional shortage areas as designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In New York alone, nearly three million people live in a dental health professional shortage area. With 43 Aspen Dental practices currently in New York, dentists and team members with Aspen Dental are working to make sure more New Yorkers have access to quality dental care.
Members of the public who spot the MouthMobile are encouraged to share their pictures to show their support for veterans with the hashtag #MouthMobile on Twitter and Facebook. For the Fall MouthMobile schedule, visit https://bit.ly/SwuGZM.
