HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aggreko plc, today announced a partnership with San Jacinto College (San Jac) to host its enhanced SelecTech technician training program. The 12-month, 42-credit-course program combines classroom instruction with web-based learning modules and on-the-job training at Aggreko's Pearland Service Center.
Led by teams located at Aggreko’s Pearland Learning Center in collaboration with San Jac faculty to develop students with technical competence, the SelecTech program exposes students to all aspects of field operations. Upon completion, graduates will receive a Certificate of Technology in Heavy Diesel Power with an opportunity to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree.
The enhanced SelecTech program, which begins Fall 2018, will produce the program’s 10th class of Aggreko-trained technicians who will apply what they learn to provide power, cooling, heating and air services for everything from disaster relief operations to industrial work and special events. Aggreko training develops experts with diverse experience and the skills needed to innovate because every job is unique.
“We take great pride in the fact that Aggreko is one of the few specialty rental companies in the industry offering a technician training program like SelecTech,” said Charley Royce, vice president of field operations for Aggreko. “Students gain valuable, hands-on experience that cannot be obtained otherwise, making them more employable, more quickly. We look forward to working with San Jacinto College to train our next generation of skilled technicians – and provide a meaningful contribution to the long-term well-being of our community.”
Since its inauguration in 2008, SelecTech has played an integral role in training technical staff to support work for Aggreko’s North American rental customers. To date, it boasts more than 100 graduates, and additional students will graduate in August 2018.
“We’re pleased a global industry leader like Aggreko has selected San Jacinto College as a partner for our students to create a path to jobs that will be in demand for many decades to come,” said Heather Rhodes, dean of business and technology on the San Jacinto College North Campus. “The new SelecTech partnership reinforces our mission to prepare students to enter the workforce with the skills needed to be attractive to growth industries now and in the future.”
Some of the courses included in Aggreko’s SelecTech program include electrical controls, power generation, preventive maintenance, refrigeration and compressed air mechanics. Interested students, whether enrolled now or employed and looking for a new career path, are encouraged to apply as Aggreko’s national search for technical talent is a high company priority to meet the growing needs of its U.S. service centers. Qualified candidates should have a high school diploma, technical ability and preferably related work experience — and veterans are encouraged to apply.
