LOUISVILLE, Ky. & SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kindred Healthcare, LLC (“Kindred”) and the University of California, Davis (“UC Davis”) today announced that they have signed a definitive agreement to create a joint venture to construct and operate a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Sacramento. The hospital will be located on the UC Davis Sacramento campus at Aggie Square, its newly announced technology and innovation campus.
The UC Davis Rehabilitation Hospital will serve the growing clinical needs of the Sacramento region. The hospital will treat patients recovering from conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. Kindred will manage the day-to-day operations of the hospital, and patients will enjoy leading-edge care provided by UC Davis physicians and clinical staff, along with all private rooms. Subject to several regulatory and other approvals, the partners expect the inpatient rehabilitation hospital to open by the third quarter of 2020.
“We are confident that our partnership to build and operate this new facility with UC Davis Health will address the growing need for inpatient rehabilitation services in the Sacramento and Northern California area,” said Jason Zachariah, President of Kindred Rehabilitation Services, a division of Kindred. “This quality-focused collaboration with a premier healthcare system will deliver the kind of excellent care and experience that improves patients’ lives. This partnership is another example of why our inpatient rehabilitation business continuously outperforms peers in key clinical measures.”
“The UC Davis Rehabilitation Hospital reflects the health system’s clinical-care vision for patients, which is to be a provider of choice for state-of-the-art treatment and to develop the therapies that post-acute care patients require,” said UC Davis Chancellor Gary S. May. “It also reflects the vision of Aggie Square – bringing the university, community and industry together to build the future. At this hospital, we’ll be caring for patients and offering innovative technologies to help patients get back to their lives faster and healthier after surgeries and other types of treatment.”
