INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana (Anthem) is committed to increasing consumer access to high-quality, affordable healthcare. As part of this commitment, Anthem and DeKalb Health (DeKalb) announced today that Anthem will be adding DeKalb to its preferred list of care providers for its Medicare Advantage plans. Starting in August 2018, DeKalb’s care providers will be considered in-network for these health plans, resulting in lower out-of-pocket costs for consumers compared to seeing a care provider outside of Anthem’s network.
“Anthem strives to create a better healthcare experience for consumers and the addition of DeKalb Health to our Medicare Advantage network achieves that goal by making it easier for individuals in DeKalb County and the surrounding areas to receive care in their community,” said David McNichols, President of Anthem’s Medicare Central Region. “We look forward to working with the leadership and care providers at DeKalb to help consumers improve their health and well-being.”
Opening its doors in 1964, DeKalb Health has continually provided care services that support the health of the surrounding community. The hospital and its care providers work to deliver high-caliber primary care and the broadest in specialty care options, through partnerships with best-in class physician groups in almost every medical specialty.
“Our goal is to be the healthcare provider of choice for DeKalb County,” said Tasha Eicher, Chief Executive Officer at DeKalb Health. “We have high-quality providers that provide excellent care and the new contract through Anthem Medicare Advantage allows for the additional patients utilizing their plan to choose us as their care providers.”
Anthem currently offers a number of health plans that meet the needs of individuals eligible for Medicare. These plans include Anthem MediBlue Plus (HMO), Anthem MediBlue Access (PPO), Anthem MediBlue Dual Advantage (HMO SNP), and Anthem MediBlue Access Basic (Regional PPO).
Some consumers are eligible to enroll in a Medicare plan today. These individuals include those who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid benefits; consumers who qualify for a special enrollment period, such as those who recently moved; or individuals who are turning 65 and newly eligible for Medicare.

About DeKalb Health
DeKalb Health opened its doors in 1964 as DeKalb Memorial Hospital, thanks to the voluntary contributions of the citizens of DeKalb County. The independent, not-for-profit hospital has achieved many milestones along the way, including the opening of Emergency Medical Services in 1975 and the completion of the Medical Office Building East three-story wing in 1992. In the last decade, numerous expansions and renovations have brought the facilities up to date, and in May 2008 the Surgical Center began welcoming patients. Comprehensive renovations to the ICU, Emergency, Imaging, Laboratory, and Respiratory were completed in 2011. April 2015, north campus renovations to Rehabilitation, Orthopedics and Business Health were completed and the hospital privatized inpatient units and rooms. Most recently in an effort to improve access to care across the county DeKalb Health opened two off-campus primary care locations in West Auburn and a Pharmacy in Garrett. Currently, DeKalb Health is working to update and refresh the medical offices of DeKalb Health Medical Group and improved its medical records systems with a transition to the Epic EHR platform. The hospital is guided by its mission to “promote, preserve and restore health” and its vision “to be the healthcare organization of choice for patients, physicians, payers and healthcare professionals.”
