CU Leadership Convention to Feature DefenseStorm’s Cybersecurity Best Practices for Credit Unions July 31 – August 3 at The Mirage, Las Vegas

-- DefenseStorm to deliver a half-day Cybersecurity Stress Test Workshop and two 45-minute sessions to equip credit union leaders to better detect and defend against cyber attacks --

ALPHARETTA, Ga. & LAS VEGAS--()--Credit unions of all sizes represent unique high-value targets for cyber criminals, and so their executives as well as technical teams need to be prepared to detect, contain and recover from cyber attacks, which are inevitable. That is the message DefenseStorm, which provides cybersecurity and cybercompliance technology and expertise crafted specifically for banking, will deliver at the CU Leadership Convention being held July 31 through August 1 at The Mirage in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Many credit union and bank executives have two misconceptions: First, they mistakenly believe they are too small or too remote to be attractive targets for cyber criminals; second, they believe their IT and compliance teams are solely responsible for cybersecurity and cybercompliance,” said Sean Feeney, DefenseStorm’s Chief Executive Officer.

“Part of our mission is to bust these two myths by helping credit unions and banks of all sizes better understand cybersecurity, and by educating executives and Boards of Directors about their roles and accountability for Cyber Safety and Soundness,” Feeney continued. “As this month’s news about the Russian cyber attacks on National Bank of Blacksburg in Virginia underscores, you don’t need to operate a global money center to be in the crosshairs of cyber criminals. All credit union and bank executives, legal counsel and employees need to be equipped to protect the organization’s assets, relationships and reputation,” he added.

In “Cybersecurity: New & Emerging Best Practices to Protect Your Credit Union & Your Members,” a workshop from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, DefenseStorm experts will educate credit union executives on cybersecurity realities and trends as well as on cyber compliance expectations of industry regulators. Attendees also will participate in a series of simulated cyber stress tests to explore issues, risks and options that present themselves during a cyber incident at a community credit union. Participants will take home DefenseStorm’s Cybersecurity Stress Test Workbook, which contains materials that will help them educate others in their credit unions about cybersecurity risks and best practices to prepare for, defend against, respond to, and recover from a cyber attack.

In “Cybersecurity: How to Anticipate, Identify & Mitigate Unlimited Risks with Limited Resources,” a 45-minute session at both 1:30 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, DefenseStorm will explore ways credit unions can cover the cybersecurity expectations of regulators and members despite resource constraints.

The CU Leadership Convention is one of the credit union industry’s largest gatherings of director and C-level credit union leaders. The conference features educational tracks in Marketing; Executive Recruiting, Retention & Compensation; Technology; Lending; Human Resources; Financial Management; and Leadership. DefenseStorm is a featured expert in the CTO Summit track of the conference. Registration for DefenseStorm’s Cybersecurity workshop remains open online and onsite until noon on Tuesday, July 31, while registration for the full conference is available online and onsite through Wednesday, August 1.
