SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--This week at Google Cloud Next ’18, FileShadow will demonstrate the power of Google Compute Engine and the Google Vision API to put machine learning in the hands of “prosumers” and small businesses. The company utilizes the API to analyze files, including images and scanned documents, to help users more effectively find files that are stored on their various cloud storage accounts and Drobo Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliances.
FileShadow connects users’ cloud storage accounts and onsite NAS appliances into a single vault, stored on Wasabi’s hot cloud storage, making their files instantly searchable, regardless of source, and “available for a lifetime.” The service supports both online and onsite systems, including Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, Adobe Creative Cloud and Drobo.

Google Vision API: What it adds to FileShadow
Using Google Cloud Vision API service, FileShadow detects characteristics of a file or image stored in any of the user’s cloud accounts and Drobo appliances. The API classifies images into numerous categories available for FileShadow’s integrated search engine. With this API, FileShadow creates extensive, searchable metadata on each file. With Google Maps API, it discovers the file’s content and location (GPS), and with Google OCR API, it performs optical character recognition (OCR) and creates vision tags for scanned images. With those additional tags, users can find any file, in any cloud storage location in just seconds.
“For example, with FileShadow and Google’s API, users can search for words that are in scanned documents, like contracts or agreements; can find skiing photos even though those images aren’t named or tagged as skiing pictures, and can search documents or images by location,” Pike added. “These machine learning capabilities were previously only available within the enterprise.”

FileShadow Service is available free of charge through Sept. 30, 2018. The current trial offer covers free cloud file assurance for up to 1TB of data and utilizes Google for file processing and Wasabi for storage—the first example of FileShadow multi-cloud services. The option to manually choose file processing and cloud storage vendors will be available in the fourth quarter of 2018.
