JACKSON, Miss.--()--Strayer University and the City of Jackson announced today that the two entities will partner to provide the city’s employees and their immediate family members with discounted tuition rates. Additionally, Strayer University will annually award one city resident with a full scholarship covering the cost of tuition. City employees and their immediate family members will have the opportunity to enroll in Strayer University classes for $750 per course — nearly 50 percent off of the standard undergraduate course price. City employees and their immediate family members will also receive a 20 percent discount on classes with the Jack Welch Management Institute, which was named a Top 25 program by The Princeton Review.

“Education is a cornerstone of our community and this unique partnership with Strayer University will allow for many of our citizens to work toward affordable, practical degrees, and the promise of fulfilling their dreams,” said Chokwe Antar Lumumba, Mayor of the City of Jackson. “With Strayer’s diverse offerings, ranging from associate’s degrees to MBAs, our employees will be able to gain real-world skills that they can then use to enhance our community.”

“At Strayer, we’ve been working for more than a century to support working adults who don’t have the luxury of going to school full time. We hope that by teaming up with the City of Jackson, we can help these hard-working civil servants and their families affordably earn a degree or gain a new skill, on their time; on their terms,” said Brian Jones, President of Strayer University.

According to recent U.S. Census Bureau data, only 26.9 percent of the city’s residents ages 25 years or older currently have a bachelor’s degree or higher.1 With the announcement of this new partnership, more City of Jackson employees and families will have the opportunity to pursue their education either online or at the Strayer University Jackson campus.

This partnership is the first-of-its-kind for Strayer University, which currently serves about 48,000 students at more than 70 campuses across the country.
