Burlywood Earns First Patents for Innovative Approach to Storage

LONGMONT, Colo.--()--Burlywood, an innovator of flash-based storage for cloud data centers, today announced that it has been awarded the first two of several applied-for patents in support of the industry’s first modular flash storage architecture that allows for rapid innovation and flexible integration of customer requirements.

Burlywood earned U.S. Patent No. 9703631 for storage emulation in a storage controller and U.S. Patent No. 9997251 for media defect management method for storage systems requiring an integrated controller. These designations recognize the company’s pioneering methods of managing high defect and high error rate in media designed to improve the efficiency of flash storage. Burlywood’s growing portfolio of technical innovation represents the company’s efforts to deliver an optimized, enterprise-class flash drive solution that increases performance and expands capacity at a cost up to 40 percent less than traditional SSDs.

The lifeblood of any company is its ability to differentiate its products and solutions from other vendors and being awarded these patents does just that by validating our approach to accelerating the transition to all-flash data centers,” said Tod Earhart, CEO of Burlywood. “By developing these storage controller operating and media defect management methods, we are able to help customers quickly and easily deploy cloud storage solutions, all-flash arrays and hyper-converged solutions with superior cost and performance benefits.”

Burlywood’s patented technology is part of its TrueFlash™ storage software solution that is optimized to customer applications, uses flash more efficiently and delivers improved performance in a more cost-effective manner than current SSDs. TrueFlash allows for the use of the latest flash technology with better performance earlier in the lifecycle of flash nodes. Integrated multi-stream Quality of Service (QoS) provides advanced traffic management and consistent performance, tuning it to match the exact needs of customers’ environments and workloads.

TrueFlash is available as a turn-key SSD solution or via an array of flexible business models with dedicated in-house support, technical and strategic support in all phases of its lifecycle, and collaborative roadmap planning from Burlywood.
