HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--This summer, electricity demand is forecasted to be at an all-time high. To help minimize home electricity use and give residents a cool and safe place to get out of the heat, Reliant has officially opened 16 Beat the Heat centers across the state in Corpus Christi, Dallas and Houston.
“We’ve experienced our fair share of extreme summers in Texas, but with expected high demand and tight supply of electricity this year, we want everyone to be prepared to manage energy usage and costs,” said Elizabeth Killinger, president, Reliant. “Hot summers are hardest on those most vulnerable, so we encourage our neighbors to take advantage of the Reliant Beat the Heat centers, customer assistance programs and energy efficiency tools to get through these summer months.”
16 Beat the Heat Locations
With more locations across the state than ever, the Reliant Beat the Heat Centers are free and available to the entire community. They feature air-conditioned spaces, bottled water, light snacks and entertainment. There are 11 locations throughout Houston, three in Corpus Christi and two in Dallas. For more details on locations, hours of operation, addresses and contact information, visit Reliant.com/CoolingCenters.
CARE - Community Assistance from Reliant
Since 2005, Reliant has contributed nearly $10 million through its CARE (Community Assistance from Reliant Energy) program for Texans who need help with summer electricity costs. Reliant works with social service agencies to assist seniors and qualified low-income residential customers with help paying their Reliant electricity bills. Reliant also offers deferred payment plans and payment extensions. For anyone who needs help this summer or wants information on any of these programs, Reliant encourages residents to contact us at 1-866-RELIANT.
A/C Program and Portable Power Donations
To help Houston-area seniors who are vulnerable to the heat, Reliant is donating $25,000 to the City of Houston’s summer A/C program, which distributes portable air conditioners to eligible seniors. In addition, 100 portable power stations will be donated to the Houston Health Department to provide reliable backup power to customers in need, powering everything from phones and lights to some medical equipment, when and wherever needed. Houston residents are asked to call 832-393-4301 to learn more about the process to request a portable air conditioner or power station.
Reliant is donating another 50 portable power stations to SBP, a disaster resilience and recovery organization that has been dedicated to Hurricane Harvey relief since August 2017. SBP will use these portable power stations at home rebuild sites to power the families, volunteers and staff as they continue recovery efforts.
Summer Savings
As Texans prepare for this summer’s potential unprecedented demand, choosing a strong, experienced electric provider with plans to fit every lifestyle has never been more important. Reliant offers customers the opportunity to earn bill credits by adjusting their thermostat during periods of high electricity demand when enrolled in the Degrees of Difference program, and Reliant’s Average Billing helps even out the highs and lows of seasonal changes by allowing customers to pay an averaged amount. The Reliant First Month Free plan can also help Texans get a head start on summer with their first full month of electricity service for free.
