LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) has unanimously voted to endorse Gavin Newsom for Governor of California. This is the first time in nearly two decades that our organization has publicly supported a candidate. But the stakes are currently too high in California – the world’s fifth largest economy – for the voice of business to remain silent in this election.
That’s why today we are joining Governor Jerry Brown, Attorney General Xavier Becerra, Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon to support Mr. Newsom’s vision for the Golden State. This is an important demonstration of unity among the leadership of California and the business community in supporting Mr. Newsom who will defend and stay true to Californian values.
During a time when issues like immigration are being used to divide communities, Mr. Newsom will lead in a way that embraces our state’s diversity and protects the rights of the people and businesses who make California strong and innovative. His plans to meet California’s housing needs are crucial to improving residents’ quality of life as well as supporting our state’s long-term ability to recruit companies and help them expand here.
Mr. Newsom has a proven track-record of fostering business development and job growth coupled with a commitment to sustainability. He embraces a core LABC policy position that environmental stewardship and economic growth go hand-in-hand. We trust that under his leadership, California will continue to outpace the nation both in terms of economic growth and strong environmental protections.
California has proven time and again that effective and bold public policy that fosters innovation, inclusion and sustainability drives growth and job creation. As Governor of California, Gavin Newsom will advance an agenda focused on strengthening our economy while amplifying the priorities of California voters.
On behalf of our 500 members, the LABC stands behind Mr. Newsom as the candidate best suited to forge consensus and unite our communities around a smart, bold vision for the future of California.
