Ebates Father’s Day Survey: It’s Not Too Late—Get Dad Electronics, Not Tools, This Year

Survey Reveals That Americans Don’t Hit the Mark on Father’s Day and That Dads Actually Care About the Gift

SAN FRANCISCO--()--If you think Dad doesn’t care about a Father’s Day gift, think again. According to new data from Ebates, a leader and pioneer in cash back shopping and subsidiary of the global internet services company Rakuten, half of Americans think Dad doesn’t want a gift, but when dads were asked, only 7 percent said they didn’t want one.

The Ebates Annual Father’s Day Survey of more than 1,000 U.S. adults was conducted online by Propeller Insights on behalf of Ebates in April 2018.

Dads Like Shiny New Electronics

If there’s one thing dads and their families don’t agree on, it’s Father’s Day gifts. Americans think Dad wants a new set of tools, but Dad really wants some new electronics.

Dads also ranked the two items they want the least: candy (10 percent) and a tie (7 percent).

The survey also found that three-quarters (75 percent) of Americans have never forgotten about Father’s Day, and that dads care more about receiving an actual gift than moms do: 44 percent of dads said they want a physical gift, but only a quarter (26 percent) of moms agreed.

About half of Americans plan to spend less than $25 on a gift for Dad, but a small percentage (8 percent) will shell out more than $100.

Campfires, S’mores and Tents = Father’s Day

Does Dad want an experiential gift, like a Father’s Day trip, this year?

About 1 in 10 dads say yes!

And more than half of Americans (56 percent) say that they’d consider taking Dad on a trip this year.

A camping trip and a staycation are the top Father’s Day trip choices (22 percent each), followed by a trip abroad (13 percent).
