MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Norton by Symantec (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced the availability of the lauded1 Norton Core secure Wi-Fi router in Australia. Named to Time Magazine’s 25 Best Inventions of 2017 list, Norton Core is a fast2, uniquely-designed Wi-Fi router with built-in security, set to transform the way consumers protect their digital lives at home. Previously only available in the United States, Australia is the first country outside of the United States to offer Norton Core.
According to the 2018 Symantec Internet Security Threat Report, routers were identified as the most exploited device in the home3. Drawing on the vast security expertise within Symantec, Norton Core was designed unlike conventional routers in that it was built with crypto authentication chip, secure boot technology and digitally-signed software updates to help protect consumers’ home networks and devices without sacrificing speed, coverage or reliability2.
“Individual device security is no longer enough for today’s connected home. Identity and personal data are hot properties for cyber criminals, and we know hackers are exploiting even the humblest connected devices within the home to access personal and financial information,” said Fran Rosch, executive vice president, Consumer Digital Safety, Symantec. “We’re proud to bring Norton Core’s capabilities to Australia, offering more consumers peace of mind that their privacy and personal information is protected by multiple layers of security while streaming their favorite content, playing online games or downloading files.”
According to the 2018 Symantec Internet Security Threat Report, Internet of Things (IoT) devices continue to be ripe targets for cyber criminals, with a 600 percent increase in overall IoT attacks seen last year4. Still, many consumers don’t realize these devices can be an easy access point for hackers into their home networks. In fact, the 2017 Norton Cyber Security Insights Report found that cyber crime victims globally were almost two times more likely to own a connected home device than non-cyber crime victims5. Whether it’s a smart speaker, surveillance camera or a baby monitor, each connected device within the home presents an entry point for hackers to exploit.
Norton Core was built with security in mind, and with its easy-to-use mobile app, provides customizable protection for the connected home. Subscription renewal is required for security and parental control features after complementary term.
Key Norton Core features include:
- Security Score: With Security Score you can see the health and security of your home network all in one place and instantly see which settings or devices might be compromising the security of your network. If the score decreases, Norton Core will provide notifications and suggestions to improve your score and help keep your network safe.
- Smarter Parental Controls: Parents can easily set internet usage limits specific to each child, filter inappropriate content, and even pause the entire home network. If an attempt is made to visit an unauthorized site, access will be blocked and parents will receive a notification6.
- Secure Guest Access: You can create guest networks with a unique password and even set time limits. When time is up, you can simply extend access or let the guest network disappear.
- Bandwidth Optimization: Give priority to any device or activity in the house with the touch of a button, so a movie can quickly be prioritized over a game console.
- Automatic Updates: Norton Core stays secure and current with new enhancements, performance improvements, and timely security updates. No manual installation of firmware updates required.
- Elegant Design: Norton Core’s unique patented geodesic dome design offers a high-performance router that you can be proud to display. It blends seamlessly into your home’s décor and helps make the most of the router’s performance wherever users are in the home.

Maximum wireless data rate is derived from IEEE standards 802.11
specifications. Actual data speed and range may vary due to factors such
as network conditions, building construction, obstacles and
interference. Deep packet inspection, a security feature, also affects
speed. Other adverse conditions may also lower actual data rate and
wireless coverage.
