Metis’ Data Science Bootcamp Gains New York State Approval to Offer GI Bill® to Veterans

Veterans May Now Use GI Bill® to Train at Metis for the #1 Job in America

NEW YORK--()--Eligible veterans may now apply to use the Post-9/11 GI Bill® to develop their data science skills at Metis, a leading data science training provider, which announced today that its New York City bootcamp has been approved by the New York State Approving Agency for the training of student veterans and other eligible persons.

Metis focuses on accelerating data science skills for individuals at all experience levels through immersive on-site bootcamps, corporate training programs, and in-person and live online professional development courses. The Metis Data Science Bootcamp is a full-time, 12-week data science experience that hones, expands, and contextualizes data science skills. Students use real data to build a five-project portfolio to present to potential employers and have access to full career support throughout and after the bootcamp.

Data Scientist has been ranked the #1 Job in America for three years running, according to careers website Glassdoor.

“My experience at Metis was spectacular. Not only did I learn practical skills for data science and analytics, I learned a whole new toolset for solving problems, and made some of my strongest friendships since the military,” said Marcus Carney, who served in the Army in Afghanistan and Iraq and now works at data analytics firm CKM Advisors. “The tenacity, adaptability, and attention to detail essential to military life are invaluable as a data scientist, and I would encourage any veteran looking for a challenging, dynamic, and rewarding career to give data science a hard look.”

Veterans may apply for admission to the bootcamp using the standard Metis admissions process. Once accepted, they will be asked to provide a current award letter stating their eligibility to use the Post-9/11 GI Bill® at a non-college degree school, which can be obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs at gibill.va.gov. Like all Metis students, they will also need to provide a record of prior training (proof of high school/college education).

Metis’ bootcamps are currently offered in Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, and New York City. Metis hopes to offer GI Bill® funding for its other locations when eligible.

Gaining approval to offer GI Bill® benefits to student veterans is part of Metis’ commitment to foster an equal and representative data science community. Veterans and members of the U.S. military, as well as women and members of other underrepresented demographic groups, are also eligible to receive a $3,000 scholarship toward their bootcamp tuition.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government website at www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.
