ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NTE Energy (“NTE”) announced that its next power plant will be the approximately 1,000 MW natural gas fired Anderson County Energy Center located in Anderson County, South Carolina. This state-of-the-art electric generation facility will represent an investment of more than $1 billion in South Carolina, and will feature some of the most efficient and environmentally-friendly technologies currently available to provide clean, low cost power to more than 1 million South Carolina businesses and households.
NTE anticipates that development and permitting of the Anderson County Energy Center will occur during the next 18-24 months, and that the facility will be operational in 2024. Upon completion, the Anderson County Energy Center will join NTE’s fleet of other assets including the company’s Kings Mountain Energy Center and its Reidsville Energy Center, which will be fully operational in 2021.
NTE utilizes its portfolio of assets to serve municipalities and power agencies located throughout the Carolinas. To date, NTE has executed long-term power purchase agreements with more than ten communities, and is in final stages of negotiations with several others. These long-term power supply contracts ensure NTE’s customers receive some of the most reliable, lowest-cost power supplies available, reducing power rates for homeowners and businesses.
“The addition of the Anderson County facility brings NTE’s generation portfolio to more than 2,000 MW representing some the newest, cleanest and most efficient power plants in the country. This substantial investment in the State of South Carolina will provide long term benefits to all of our customers through stable, lower power rates and enhanced economic development,” said Mike Green, SVP of Carolinas Development for NTE Energy.
