BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--gMed®, a Modernizing Medicine® company, announced that GI Partners of Illinois and GI North have switched to the award-winning gGastro® electronic health record (EHR) system and suite of solutions. Both practices faced challenges with their previous EHR and opted to utilize gMed’s gastroenterology EHR, Practice Management and Endoscopy Report Writer to help address the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS)* and to have one integrated system across their practice locations.
GI Partners of Illinois, in Libertyville, Ill., is a growing gastroenterology specialty group comprised of nearly 50 staff members including gastroenterologists, administrators, nurse administrators and nurse practitioners. Led by multiple renowned gastroenterologists, including Dr. Edward Jurkovic, GI Partners of Illinois provides a variety of services including the latest diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Several gastroenterology practices were uniting under the GI Partners umbrella, so although the leadership team evaluated the multiple EHRs that the company’s practices utilized, few systems were built with the gastroenterologist’s workflow in mind and met their interoperability needs. With nine practices across multiple geographic locations, GI Partners of Illinois needed a cloud-based system to enable seamless communications and data sharing from office to office. gGastro provides the staff with the tools they need to improve office workflow and increase efficiency.
“As gastroenterologists, we receive multiple administrative tasks per day, on top of treating our patients. With gMed’s EHR, Practice Management and Endoscopy Report Writer, we can easily access, prioritize and execute tasks throughout the day, with little to no work to take home after hours,” said Dr. Jurkovic. “As a physician, I know I can focus on my patients in the exam room with gMed’s technology. As an executive of a growing healthcare practice, I’m confident any and all information about our patients is seamlessly integrated, with no stones unturned, and we’re able to not only improve patient care but also improve our bottom line.”
Dr. Jurkovic and his team chose gGastro also due to its ease of transition to value-based care. Since implementation, his practice earned an estimated MIPS score between 95 - 97, increased payments and met MIPS criteria, without interrupting practice operations. Dr. Jurkovic shares: “gMed plays a huge role in simplifying our MIPS and MACRA reporting. Not only is the technology easy-to-use, but gMed’s customer service and MIPS team have been instrumental to our staff understanding the reporting system. I can finally focus more on my patients than I have been able to in years past, and that makes our practice successful – we are full time doctors again.”
GI North is located outside of Atlanta, Ga., and is led by gastroenterologists Dr. Simon Cofrancesco and Dr. Sergio Quijano with the assistance of their expanding staff. GI North provides its patients with the latest diagnostic technology for colonoscopy, upper endoscopy and other colon cancer screening procedures, as well as treats a variety of conditions from chronic to digestive issues.
In anticipation of opening an endoscopy center later this year, Dr. Cofrancesco and his colleagues were researching a combined EHR, practice management and endoscopy system; they didn’t feel their previous vendor met that need. Dr. Cofrancesco also recognized the importance of utilizing technology that addressed value-based care. After connecting with trusted colleagues, he learned more about gMed’s suite of solutions, its MIPS capabilities and the integrated Endoscopy Report Writer. GI North eventually switched to use gGastro across its multiple practice locations.
“Before implementing gGastro, we had concerns about meeting MIPS. Once we became aware of gMed’s capabilities, we became confident in our decision to switch vendors. As we implement gGastro in our offices, the gMed team is already proving to be a valuable asset to our business operations,” said. Dr. Cofrancesco.
gGastro is the only gastroenterology-specific EHR system to ever be ranked #1 since Black Book started polling for the Top EHR Lists in 2010, and recently Black Book named it the #1 gastroenterology EHR system for the eighth consecutive year.
