ADA, Okla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LegalShield, one of North America’s leading providers of affordable legal plans and the IDShield identity theft solution for individuals, families and small businesses, proudly supports democratizing access to justice for all. The company announced today that it will commemorate Law Day, May 1, 2018, and has set up a toll-free hotline for individuals in all 50 states to call and speak with an attorney for free. Between 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. CT, volunteer attorneys from LegalShield’s network of provider law firms will take calls and speak with any individual – not just LegalShield members – who has legal questions.
By calling 1-800-261-8165, individuals can get access to a lawyer who can answer questions about several areas of law. LegalShield’s network of attorneys have an average of 22 years of experience in areas such as family matters, estate planning, financial and business issues, consumer protection, tax, real estate, benefits disputes and auto/driving issues. Services are also available in Spanish. Attorneys will not be retained, and they will not be representing any individuals.
“Law Day is a national day of service, and it is up to all of us to uphold the American Bar Association’s mission to assure meaningful access to justice for everyone,” explained Keri Norris, senior vice president of regulatory affairs and chief legal counsel at LegalShield. “The vast majority of Americans cannot afford a lawyer, and nationally there continues to be a shortage of legal solutions and resources for underserved and low-income individuals and families. LegalShield is committed to advancing the legal profession and to removing the barriers to justice through technology. We believe that absolutely no one should go without due legal protection because they can’t afford it.”
Law Day is held on May 1 every year to celebrate the role of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession. President Dwight Eisenhower established the first Law Day in 1958 to mark the nation’s commitment to the rule of law. In 1961, Congress codified May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day (U.S. Code, Title 36, Section 113). Every president since then has issued a Law Day proclamation on May 1 to celebrate the nation’s commitment to the rule of law. This year’s theme is “Separation of Power: Framework for Freedom.”
