RICHMOND, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RecycleSmart, a leading provider of waste and recycling management services, today announced its new corporate social responsibility initiative with Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver. The partnership allows the Company to grow and improve its commitment to social equity and employee engagement.
Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver is one of 58 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across Canada and among more than 3000 affiliates around the world. The organization is inclusive, not for profit, and non-governmental. Through volunteer labour and donations of money and materials, Habitat works with families in need to build safe, decent and affordable housing. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a home décor and building supply store that sells new and gently-used home and garden products at up to 80% off retail prices.
“Partnering with Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver is a natural next step for our social responsibility efforts,” says Colin Bell, Managing Partner at RecycleSmart. “The organization’s goal to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing aligns with our mission to create a healthier community. We look forward to collaborating with Habitat to build a community we’re proud of.”
Habitat’s ReStores already divert over 600 tons of usable material from the landfill annually, per store, which is 2400 tons per year. RecycleSmart helped Habitat Vancouver divert an additional 16 tons of waste from landfill in 2017 in addition to the material diverted by reusing buildings supplies.
With RecycleSmart, Habitat can further recycle and sort waste in a way that generates profit. “We are thrilled to team up with RecycleSmart,” says Dennis Coutts, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Great Vancouver. “With their help and expertise in waste management and recycling, our organization can save precious time and money, which we can instead to put towards building homes for local families.”
