SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Falkonry, Inc., a leading provider of operational machine learning for Global 2000 industrial companies, today announced that EDP Inovação, the innovation organization at one of the largest electric power operations in Europe, has completed its evaluation of applying the Falkonry LRS machine learning and predictive analytics system for its solar assets. At the upcoming OSIsoft PI World on April 23-27, EDP Inovação and Falkonry will present the results of this trial, showing how the Falkonry LRS system was able to accurately identify unexpected patterns of the photovoltaic (PV) power output as natural light conditions (irradiation) changed.
EDP uses OSIsoft’s PI System as part of its data infrastructure to collect and manage time series data in its operations. EDP Inovação applied the Falkonry LRS machine learning system to automatically identify and classify underperformance of solar panels in its solar lab. This insight enabled EDP to improve operations by remotely identifying failures and underperformance in its photovoltaic arrays during the trial.
Comments on the News:
“We chose to evaluate the Falkonry LRS system because we wanted to try a reliable machine learning system that did not require a team of data scientists and could easily integrate with our existing data infrastructure, to unlock value from the data we had at our fingertips,” said Tiago Duarte, Technology Expert at EDP Inovação.
“In less than three weeks, we were able to develop a test case to accurately identify unexpected patterns on the PV output based on the irradiation that it is actually receiving. This allows us to quickly identify failures and underperformances from our solar panels,” explained Filipa Reis, Technology Expert at EDP Inovação.
“Like most industrial companies we work with, EDP already had time series data, but were not fully leveraging it to improve their operations,” said Dr. Nikunj Mehta, Founder and CEO of Falkonry. “With ready to use machine learning they were able to quickly predict and derive value for solar farm applications.”
“As an OSIsoft partner, Falkonry is helping companies improve their operational performance by leveraging data, and all functionality, from the PI System,” said Jesus Hernandez, Vice President of Global Business Development at OSIsoft. “The EDP application is a perfect example of how seamless this process can be, and the results being presented at PI World will highlight the value that can be realized through operational machine learning.”
