American Planning Association Announces 2018 National Planning Award Recipients

CHICAGO--()--The American Planning Association (APA) proudly recognizes the recipients of the 2018 National Planning Excellence and Achievement Awards. This year’s honorees demonstrate how planning addresses the needs of communities for today, and tomorrow.

Each year, APA recognizes outstanding efforts in planning and planning leadership through its National Planning Excellence and Achievement Awards. Established more than 50 years ago, APA’s national awards program is a proud tradition that recognizes achievements by individuals, planning departments and government agencies for their leadership and innovation on planning issues. Their efforts help create communities of lasting value throughout the country – and around the world.

“The award recipients this year demonstrate the importance of engaging all community members and improving access and opportunity for all,” said W. Shedrick Coleman, AIA, 2018 Awards Jury chair. “These recipients serve as national models for other communities.”

The two-tiered awards are selected through a juried process. In 2018, five recipients were selected to receive APA’s National Planning Excellence Awards, the highest honor, while 16 recipients earned Achievement Awards, which recognizes efforts in areas of specialization within the planning profession. All award recipients will be recognized during APA’s National Planning Conference at a special awards luncheon on Monday, April 23, 2018 in New Orleans.
