JOHANNESBURG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Atha-Africa Ventures (Pty) Ltd (A-AV) is today announcing its social campaign #LadiesWeCare. While announcing the launch of the campaign, Mr. Praveer Tripathi, Senior Vice President of Atha-Africa, said, “In South Africa many girls miss school at least one week every month because they don’t have access to sanitary pads. We can never have enough campaigns to address this issue for as long as there are still young girls who cannot afford sanitary products.”
“This is the first phase of a longstanding campaign that we kick start with #LadiesWeCare to help underprivileged high school girls by providing free sanitary pads. We are aiming to launch further initiatives in education, health and agriculture in the coming weeks and months as part the company’s Corporate Responsibility Initiatives (CSR) on a sustained basis.”
Atha-Africa Ventures (Pty) Ltd (A-AV) is a subsidiary of Atha Group, India, and is the flagship Company of the Group in South Africa. One of its objectives is to be the community’s partner in education, health and agriculture in the Mpumalanga region. #LadiesWeCare campaign kicked off on the 14th of March 2018 when Atha-Africa gave 2000 packs of sanitary pads to girls from Uthakha Secondary School, Injabulo Combined, Qhubulwazi Combined, Elangwane Secondary and Nalithuba Secondary, recognising that sanitary pad provision does not only restore dignity for young girls, but also keeps these young ladies in school.
This is the first initiative of a bigger community campaign for the company. Before Easter holidays, Atha-Africa will be providing school shoes to underprivileged primary school learners. In partnership with the community, the organisation believes that the development of the company and its project will translate into the development of the community. To date the company has invested ZAR 400 million and has committed to invest an additional ZAR 600 million, of which of which ZAR 6 million is committed to social and labour initiatives.
