BTB Security Forms RIOT Labs to Detect Emerging Threats and Techniques

PHILADELPHIA--()--Massive security breaches and successful hacks have underscored the importance of proactive security research and intelligence gathering in preventing or mitigating cyber-attacks. To stay ahead of today’s threats, BTB Security, an information security company, has launched RIOT Labs to extend and formalize the firm’s current research, threat intelligence, and development efforts.

Dubbed RIOT Labs, for Research, Intelligence, and Offensive Techniques, the new division will identify and analyze emerging threats to develop actionable intelligence that can be applied to the firm’s primary security services, integrating cutting-edge intelligence on new attack vectors.

“A simple investment in security quickly becomes useless without constant improvement. To stay ahead, you have to be constantly redefining your defenses to mimic the changing threats, trends, and exploits that the attackers are using,” said Ron Schlecht, founder and managing partner at BTB Security. “By devoting increased resources to research on emerging attack vectors, we will be able to identify vulnerabilities and update our clients’ defenses faster.”

The complexity and volume of new attacks have forced companies to take responsibility for their own security or look elsewhere for the expertise and resources needed to protect themselves. As damaging vulnerabilities and exploits continue to threaten organizations globally, the need for intelligence and research to stay ahead of the curve is only heightened.

Organizations need complete visibility into their network as well as constant insight into increasingly malicious and complex threats to maintain security. Leveraging in-house research, deception technology, and more, RIOT Lab’s team of security experts will provide critical information on new threats and mitigation tactics to better serve clients, proactively address risk, and identify vulnerabilities in client environments.

“Our customers also look to us to play the role of hacker and use any means possible to break in,” continued Schlecht. “Attackers are constantly developing new methods to cause damage and disrupt organizations. With RIOT Labs, we are gaining increased intelligence to test our customers’ networks and identify security gaps using the newest, most complex tools that hackers are using in real attacks.”
