MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist within Deutsche Post DHL Group, announced it has expanded its presence in key Southern border stations, in order to satisfy the needs of local customers who require air freight, ocean freight, customs brokerage, warehouse and domestic services. The six stations form part of DHL’s strategic plan to grow its freight forwarding services in main cities across the U.S.
“We are continuously searching for ways to provide more access to our services for our customers, and we feel that investing in San Diego, Tucson, Nogales, El Paso, Laredo and McAllen stations is integral to that goal,” said David Goldberg, U.S. CEO for DHL Global Forwarding. “We are very excited to experience how our local presence will further develop our relationships with current and potential customers doing business in these six border stations.”
DHL is now present in San Diego, California due to the company’s close links to telecommunications, biotechnology, software and electronics industries supporting the 33 percent export growth in San Diego seen between 2006 and 2016. Nogales and Tucson, Arizona, both part of the Arizona Sun Corridor mega region, also were earmarked as key locations for DHL due to their proximity to important markets like Mexico and California.
Similarly, El Paso, Texas stood out for being the 10th largest exporter in the U.S., according to a report by the International Trade Administration, and its various industries, including military, food production and apparel. McAllen, Texas’ cross border history and status as a southern Texas/northern Mexico retail trade center were also integral in DHL’s decision to expand its presence there. Laredo, Texas, with a 2015 export value of approximately $8 billion, was equally noteworthy.

As part of its efforts to reach out to the local business community and share relevant information that is important to businesses importing and exporting to and from the U.S., DHL Global Forwarding held educational courses on the International Commercial Terms (INCOTERMS® 2010) at each of the stations in 2017. INCOTERMS are pre-defined commercial terms and rules published by the International Chamber of Commerce for the delivery of goods under sales contracts for domestic and international trade.
DHL Global Forwarding’s new Southern border stations employ 300 employees in total and are all strategically located near international airports and border crossings. To date, DHL has solidified its presence in 18 cities across the U.S., with a total of 37 stations across the country.
