BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In honor of World Cancer Day, the Gift of Life Marrow Registry, a nonprofit public bone marrow and blood stem cell registry, is proud to announce that its partnership with the McKesson Foundation has resulted in 5,000 committed donors joining the international marrow registry.
Started in January 2016 with financial support from the McKesson Foundation, the McKesson Marrow Drive Campaign reached its goal of 5,000 donors through internal donor registration drives tied to voluntary biometric screenings; a “friends and family” referral campaign; and sponsorship of drives, with a focus on McKesson’s partner universities and the communities where its employees live and work. The McKesson Marrow Drive was implemented with the close involvement and support of the company’s network of employee resource groups, reflecting the urgent need for marrow donors of diverse backgrounds.
To date, the McKesson Marrow Drive Initiative has led to six matches and a successful marrow transplant in March 2017. The McKesson Foundation is continuing its drive, recognizing the ongoing and acute need to grow the registry and enable more matches.
