SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rainforest QA, the leader in on-demand quality assurance (QA) solutions, today announced it raised $25 million in Series B funding, bringing the company’s total funding to $41.2 million. Silicon Valley Bank, Bessemer Venture Partners, Sutter Hill Capital, Rincon Ventures, and Initialized Capital all participated in the round. Rainforest will use the new funds to accelerate sales and marketing and further expand its platform so development teams can assure the best possible user experience at the speed of continuous delivery. Concurrently, Rainforest announced more than 3,000 percent growth over the past three years.
“The way we build software has dramatically changed over the last 10 years, but development teams are still doing QA the same way,” said Fred Stevens-Smith, CEO of Rainforest. “We’ve spent the last five years helping hundreds of companies completely disrupt the old QA model and ship better digital products much faster. This new funding puts Rainforest in a great position to sustain our rapid growth and help even more companies get one step closer to delivering bug-free software at the speed of continuous delivery.”
“Rainforest QA’s rapid growth is a testament to the tremendous value they bring to even the world’s most advanced software companies,” said Byron Deeter, top cloud investor and partner at Bessemer Venture Partners. "Similarly to how Twilio has disrupted communications by leveraging the cloud, Rainforest is disrupting software development by solving quality assurance (QA), one of the major pain points for development teams today. This world-class team is enabling software companies to ship product faster and we are excited to continue to support their next stage of growth.”
Consumers now expect a flawless user experience every time, yet development teams are struggling to meet their expectations in an era of continuous delivery. With the adoption of weekly and daily delivery cycles, production times for developers who write and test code have reduced exponentially. Additionally, development teams are overloaded and understaffed, and as a result businesses need a new way to ensure error-free code. Without a new approach to the often last but critical step of QA testing, businesses are forced to dramatically slow down their release times or ship buggy software that erodes customer retention and loyalty.
Rainforest’s on-demand QA solution uses machine learning algorithms to constantly monitor results and testers for accuracy so that developers can focus on the highest value initiatives. Rainforest’s QA specialists are trained to understand the customer experience, providing another layer of scale to developer teams. Hundreds of companies globally use Rainforest for mobile, web and exploratory testing results they can rely on in under 30 minutes, and report positive ROI in the first 60 days. A recent report from Capgemini found spending on QA will increase to “40% of IT spend in 2019, highlighting a continued urgent need to find efficiencies.”
Today’s news follows more than a year of continued momentum and growth for Rainforest:
- Signed more than 130 new customers including Aprimo, Bluecore, Carrington Mortgage Services, Delivery.com, iOffice, Outreach, StubHub, Quid and Wayfair.
- Expanded executive team with the appointment of Derek Choy to CIO, previously of eBay/PayPal and Sam Blond to CRO, previously of Zenefits and EchoSign (acquired by Adobe).
- Analyzed more than 78 million user actions globally.
- Named one of the 20 Rising Stars as Part of Forbes 2017 Cloud 100 List.
“We use Rainforest’s QA solution to help keep our processes running smoothly and efficiently,” said Jay Winters, CTO at Delivery.com. “With Rainforest we have reduced our regression testing time from hours to minutes. This enables us to get code to production faster, freeing up time to focus on new ways to service customers and improve our business.”
